Yamaha has filed a series of patent applications for a production version of its 2005 Gen-Ryu hybrid concept bike, according to Gizmag, which added that the company could begin selling the model as soon as next year.
The new electric bike will employ the company's YZF-R6 600cc engine to power a generator, which in turn will drive the bike's rear wheel. The article said that every Yamaha styling patent published over the last 20 years has resulted in a full production model, so there's no reason to believe this one won't make it either.
This isn't Yamaha's first foray into alternative fuel concepts with two (or even three) wheels. Nonetheless, Yamaha plans to debut the cycle at the Tokyo Motor Show later this year, according to the report.

The new-generation YZF-R1 is more closely linked to our MotoGP winning M1 than ever before. For 2009 this legendary motorcycle is equipped with an all-new 998cc inline four-cylinder engine with a crossplane crankshaft that runs with an uneven firing interval of 270º - 180º - 90º - 180º. This innovative new design ensures superb throttle linearity, giving a feeling that the rider’s throttle hand is directly connected to the rear tyre. The new engine feels and sounds smoother than ever, and emits an unforgettable growl from the exhaust. Pushing out 182 PS at 12,500 rpm with 115.5 Nm of torque at 10,000 rpm, this MotoGP-inspired engine is without a doubt the most technologically advanced powerplant ever seen on a Yamaha supersport bike. And for the ultimate in feel and controllability, the new-generation R1 runs with an all-new Deltabox chassis offering an idealized rigidity balance. The 848 is Ducati's most impressive middleweight Superbike ever. Its exceptional lightweight and legendary Ducati chassis set-up combined with the smooth and thrilling torque delivery of the L-Twin Desmo provide the ideal way to enter the world of Ducati Superbikes.
With a dry weight of just 168kg (369lb) the agile 848 is an amazing 20kg (44lb) lighter and 30% more powerful than its predecessor, enabling the middleweight to deliver impressive performances whether riding through mid-town traffic or racing through track-day competition. These incredible achievements are a fitting reward to Ducati's ingenuity and a clear result of the continual attention to detail and development of their twin-cylinder technology.
Iconic features from its bigger brothers, such as the twin under-seat silencers, single-sided swingarm, Trellis frame and beautiful race bodywork, are all part of the 848's DNA. Its family
resemblance assures that it is equipped with all the performance advancements of the Superbike family, while adding its own particular refinements to the middleweight sport bike class. From the first twist of the throttle, the powerful rush of the Testastretta Evoluzione engine confirms that the rules have changed. The 848 is a new class of Superbike.

Trading the traditional intake and exhaust positions for a lightweight airbox and throttle body, this Yamaha dirt bike delivers more power and nimble handling. Also new is its aluminum Bilateral Beam frame, giving you awesome rigidity balance for superb cornering. Finishing it off is its revamped look, complete with sleek styling, which includes new front and rear fenders, intake cover, front fork protector, and number plate, and fuel tank and seat. The YZ450F starts in price from $7,990. Yamaha.

Yamaha has changed the look and feel of electric bikes with their new EC-02. This bike features a big round headlight, ‘banana’ seat with space for two and chromed teardrop front and rear turn signal lights. Since this bike is powered with electricity, it does not have a gas tank. But the company has done good not to leave the gas tank space empty as they have integrated a faux tank in the space which carry stereo speakers, enabling the rider to play the songs stored on an iPod. Another feature is an iPod charging dock to make sure you never run out of battery.
With so much under its hood, the bike promises a 40 mile range at a top speed of 18-mph. Another feature that will lure you to take it to a night party is its ‘Glow in the dark’ exterior that will make you stand out of the crowd. The bike is priced at $2,000 and is available only in Japan. We hope that the bike will soon make it to other markets of the world.

Apparently the new generation Yamaha V-Max, first shown as a concept bike at last year's Tokyo motor show, is now headed for production. Yamaha has opened a website, www.next-vmax.com, which contains a photo gallery of the concept bike, as well as a section where you can give Yamaha your feedback on the bike.
The most interesting question the site poses is probably "How much horsepower do you expect from the next V-Max model?" - the choices range from 140hp all the way to 210hp! There is also a question concerning the advanced features you'd like - options include traction control and ABS.
This is good news for V-Max enthusiasts (or should we say 'members of the cult of V-Max'?) who are eagerly awaiting the new bike.
